This piece began as a study in softness and contrast. I was exploring a looser, more painterly approach, allowing brushwork to stay visible, especially around the outer edges where flower and background meet. The shift toward spontaneity felt liberating, and the result carries that energy.
The rose itself is weathered. Some of the outer petals are greened or blemished, and they’re part of what gives it presence. Though I didn’t set out with anything personal in mind, this painting quietly took on more meaning as it unfolded. It feels like a memory: delicate, imperfect, and full of light.
