Dive head-first into the world of art with our courses and workshops. Following the atelier approach of learning through observation and practice, students are encouraged to choose their own subjects, compose their own artworks, take risks, and make mistakes. Your teacher, a professional artist, will be on hand at every step for advice and encouragement.

Intro to Oil Painting
6-week workshop

Prerequisites: none
Price: $350This 6-week workshop introduces classical oil painting through the design and rendering of a single artwork. Students learn about materials, prepare their own painting surfaces, and compose their own painting. Techniques and technical considerations are explained at each step of the process, and students regularly receive personalized guidance along the way.

Warm & Cool Oil Painting
6-week workshop
Class meets weekly for 2 hours
Prerequisites: Intro to Painting
Price: $350This 6-week workshop explores the subtle use of warm and cool colors to generate interest and feeling in an artwork, using a classical sculpture (plaster cast) as the subject matter. Students experiment with different color arrangements and observe how color can be manipulated even in seemingly colorless objects.

Self-Portraits in Oil I
PART 1: GRISAILLE
6-week workshop
Class meets weekly for 2 hours
Prerequisites: Intro to Painting
Price: $350A grisaille is a method of underpainting used by the Old Masters, in which a painting is completed in grayscale. This allows the artist to focus on the shape and form of their subject before getting distracted by color. This 6-week workshop walks students through the process of painting their own grisaille portrait.

Self-Portraits in Oil II
PART 2: GLAZING

Class meets weekly for 2 hours
Prerequisites: Intro to Drawing, Intro to Painting, Self-Portraits in Oil Part 1
Price: $350After completing a grisaille underpainting, the Old Masters used a technique called glazing to add color to their artworks. This 6-week workshop explains the glazing process and its pitfalls, turning students’ greyscale self-portraits into full-color artworks.

Landscapes in Oil
6-week workshop
Class meets weekly for 2 hours
Prerequisites: Intro to Drawing, Intro to Painting
Price: $350This 6-week workshop guides students through the art concepts and painting techniques used in landscape painting. We discuss and practice perspective, foreshortening, lighting, and color – and how to harmonize them all to create a beautiful painting.

Cityscapes in Oil
6-week workshop
Class meets weekly for 2 hours
Prerequisites: Intro to Drawing, Intro to Painting
Price: $350Creating the illusion of depth on a canvas is an essential skill in the artist’s toolkit. This 6-week workshop teaches students how to use perspective and foreshortening to convincingly paint a city or architectural scene of their choice.
Prices include all materials, but students are welcome to bring personal supplies such as brushes and oil colors. Experienced students may skip prerequisites upon approval. Courses are billed up front and are non-refundable.
We accept charter school funds! We're currently approved vendors with Mission Vista Academy, Springs Charter Schools, and Suncoast Preparatory Academy, and are open to registering with other area schools. All classes and group sessions are appropriate for grades 6-12 unless otherwise noted, are secular in nature, and comply with school policies.
