Artist's Notes

This painting is a study in color, closeness, and unfolding. The rose fills the canvas like a soft, cavernous bloom, enlarged and slightly off center, with the eye drawn into the place where the flower begins to open. A small touch of green appears near the center and again along the outer edge, offering a quiet contrast to the pinks, cool purples, and bright reds that shape the form. Rather than describing the flower exactly, I wanted the color to carry the feeling of it: lush, intimate, and alive.

The background was handled more spontaneously, with rough, suggestive marks that hint at yellow light and the presence of an outer leaf without fully defining either. Around the edges, the brushwork stays soft and quick, allowing the rose to dissolve into atmosphere, while the center holds more focus and detail. I love the tension between those two ways of seeing, clarity and impression, structure and sensation. My hope is that the viewer feels invited into the bloom itself, into a moment of beauty that feels less like a photograph and more like a memory made of color.
