These oranges grow just outside my studio: sun-warmed, a little wild, and never quite uniform. Their flavor is more tangy than sweet, their leaves weathered by time and sun. They aren’t the kind you’d find perfectly stacked in a market bin, and that’s exactly why I chose them.
There’s a quiet poetry in imperfection. I wanted to honor the truth of these fruits as they are: slightly bruised, deeply alive, full of character. In painting them, I wasn’t searching for idealized beauty. I was capturing the kind that already exists, unapologetically, in the real.
